29 July 2011, Results from National Age Group Championships in Sheffield.
If you see them by the pool make sure you give your congratulations to the below swimmers. They all managed to improve upon their times set at the Regional Championships 6 weeks ago and pulled out a set of fantastic PB’s at the Nationals.
Georgina Boyle 4th in 100 Freestyle, 14th in 200 Freestyle
Joshua Lawson 6th in 200 Breaststroke, 6th in 100 Breaststroke
Hugo Lowell 7th in 200 Breaststroke, 11th in 100 Breaststroke.
Holly Addison 15th in 200 Backstroke, 18th in 100 Backstroke
This is a fantastic achievement for the swimmers and the club as a whole when you consider that:
- The club is only just approaching the end of its second year.
- The NQT’s were set particularly high this year.
- All of our swimmers are ‘home bred’ and have genuinely swam with their coaches for a considerable time
- Our swimmers qualified in 3 different strokes and all had 2 different distances, thus highlighting the balance and broad scope of our Performance Programme.
A fantastic achievement by all involved. Martin Jurco – Head Coach
25 July 2011, GB Masters National Open Water Championships
Pip Bennett and Tony pearce went to the Masters National Open Water Championships in Sheffield. It was a windy day and although the water temperature was meant to be 18 degrees, they had reports that it felt more like 16. Only a few people warmed up in the water as they were doing a dive start (quite unusual for open water racing at this level) and they did not want to wait around in the cold! After battling the elements and the other swimmers, Tony came outwith a Silver in his age category and Pip became National Champion in the (30-34 category). Very pleasing results to say the least!
17July 2011, The Nationals!
This year St Pauls Barnes Swimming Club have four swimmers competing in The Nationals. After an incredible year of training and competing Holly Addison, Georgina Boyle, Joshua Lawson and Hugo Lowell are heading off to the Sheffield Arena and will compete at the Nationals from Thursday 21 July - Sunday 24 July. We wish them and their coaches all the very best of luck and will be cheering them on in spirit!
17 July 2011, World Swimming Championships
Best of luck to our coach Damien Bryan who will be working with the Irish Open Water Swimming Team at the forthcoming World Championships in Shanghai from 17-23 July.

15 February 2011, YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU
As the membership has grown and we have more swimmers competing in more meets than ever before, life is becoming officially ‘impossible’ for the Coaches!
In addition to all the hours spent by the pool week in week out throughout the year, the Coaches have an ever increasing admin work load. Some would say it is not their strength! All would agree it is not where they should be focusing their energies!
SPBSC already has a number of parents providing support in many ways to the club so if you would like to join the merry band of helpers then please see the ‘situations vacant’ below and contact Tom Taylor: tbt@stpaulsschool.org.uk without delay! We can guarantee that your child will be an Olympic Swimmer if you help out – actually that bit’s not true but it will be rewarding and you will have lots of laughs along the way!
ENTRY FEE TREASURER
At the moment the Coaches are receiving cheques left, right and centre and this process is screaming out for a ‘System’ and a ‘System Manager’! The prime role would be to manage the meet entries, identify any cheques that need raising, chase the cheques and record that all fees are paid by closing out each meet account.
CLUB SHOP
In the spirit of flexible working practices this position is a job share! Nicola Brandon has volunteered to help out here but is looking for another person to cover the nights she is not there. We would aim then to have the Shop open 2-4 nights a week. If you always fancied working in retail and fashion this is undoubtedly the position for you!
ADMIN ASSISTANT
Inputting results into the Hytek system after each gala. Something that could be done at the side of the pool during training sessions? At home on a Sunday evening with glass of wine in hand? During second act of eldest child’s production of King Lear? Full training given!
We really hope you will find some time to get involved and support the club as it supports your child to achieve their fullest potential.
15 February 2011, Trials for New Members
We are holding trials to join our club for kids who are 10 years and under on Saturday 12th March at St Pauls Boys swimming pool. Please see our Squad Criteria page for the standard of swimming and training commitment we expect. If you are interested please email membership-enquiries@stpaulsbarnessc.com

16 December 2010, Final details for Festive Period
There are a few things you should be aware of while you are swimming over the festive period (Friday 17 December – Tuesday 4 January). As the school will effectively be shut during this time, there will be no support staff or cleaners on site, and as such this leaves the club with a few additional responsibilities which are as follows:
Arrival on site:There will be no car parking attendant on duty to control the flow of traffic. With this in mind can all members please park in the car park on the right of the drive which will be empty during this period.
Cleaning:There will be no cleaning staff at work during the festive period. To help reduce the amount of dirt in the pool area please ensure that all club members remove their shoes and sock before going pool side.
Pool Temperature:It’s highly unlikely but if the pool were to over heat or drop in temperature it may become unsafe for swimmers. With no Engineer on site, no immediate adjustments will be able to be made. Coaches will monitor the temperature of water and cancel sessions immediately if necessary.
15 December 2010, New Swim Hats
A batch of new swim hats has been delivered. (Cost £7.00) If you would like to purchase one please bring cheques, or the correct money.
15 December 2010, Lost Ipod.
Nick Maini has lost his ipod. It was last seen on the coach on Saturday 11 December. If anyone has seen it please do get in touch with Milton.
07 December 2010, Schedule for Festive Period
As the school will effectively shut down over the Christmas holidays, there will be a reduced swimming programme during this period. For further details please click here.
03 December 2010, SPBSC AWARDS CEREMONY
Dear All,
This is just a quick reminder about the Prize Giving ceremony taking place on Sunday 12 December 11.00 – 13.00.
Every swimmer who took part in the Club Championships will receive a certificate with their recorded times. Those who achieved third or above in any race will also receive a corresponding medal. On top of this the 200 Meter, BAGCATS, and Challenge cup trophies will also be awarded.
We have a lot to get through so please do try to arrive on time. The event will take place in the SPS dining room.
Looking forward to seeing you there and celebrating everyone's achievements this year.

16 November 2010, Results from National Arena League:
After round 2 of the NAL, SPBSC are lying 5th. If we want to be promoted to Division 1 we must be be in 4th place or better. If this was the final score the club would miss out by a matter of just 18 points...

01 November 2010, Pool Now Open
We are happy to announce that the pool will be opened as planned from 09.00 today (Monday 1 November).
27 October 2010, Update on Pool Closure and Latymer
Dear All,
Firstly I am pleased to inform you that the maintenance work on the boys school pool is going well and it should reopen on Monday 1st November as planned. The temperature and levels of the pool will need to have a final check on Monday morning before we are given the final go ahead. We anticipate that these should be fine but to ensure that there are no wasted journeys on Monday evening please check your emails and the website before travelling to St Paul’s.
On another note, an internal miscommunication with Latymer security staff meant that they had not been notified about our arrival yesterday, and therefore stopped all swimmers from accessing the pool through the main school entrance on King street.
Moving forward all swimmers must now enter the school from the side gate on Rivercourt Road which takes you down towards the riverbank. (If driving go west on the A4 and take the first left after the Hammersmith flyover). Swimmers should be dropped off and picked up at the same location.
20 October 2010, Arrangements for closure of St Paul's
Dear All,
Sorry for the slight delay getting back to you regarding arrangements for the pool closure next week. I’m delighted to announce that Latymer Upper school have kindly offered us the use of their pool during the following hours:
Though these timings are not exactly the same as the usual timetable, we have tried to get as close a match as possible in an attempt to reduce any disruption and inconvenience that these changes will cause.

Regional Squad
As a happy accident of this arrangement with Latymer Upper, and as part of a bid to develop better links with our neighbours, our Regional Squad has been invited to train alongside squads from Chelsea& Kensington Swimming Club who also happen to train at Latymer each morning between 07.30 – 09.30. (Please email Martin for further details).
Seniors and Masters
Sadly we have not been able to secure any specific pool space for our Seniors and Masters squads (We know that most swimmers in this group will be at work and unable to swim much before 18.30). If however any swimmers are able to make the earlier times they would be more than welcome to join the Competitive Development slots.
Swim Camp
Sadly due to not being able to find suitable space, the swim camp will unfortunately have to be cancelled. (Please email Martin for further details).

Please try to arrive at the main gates on King Street 15 minutes before your session starts. On arrival please report to reception, and the porter on duty will be able to direct you to the swimming pool....it’s slightly complex.
1) Walk through the school grounds in the direction of the A4
2) Use the ‘internal underpass’ which takes you under the A4
3) Take a right to enter the sports complex and pool area.
Website:
You may have noticed a few changes to the website. Though the changes are not drastic we hope that they have made things less cluttered, and slightly more easy to follow.
Home page: This will remain largely unchanged throughout the year, and act as an introduction to the club to any prospective new members
News and announcements:
This section is the most important for current members. This will give updates on things such as emergency pool closures, social events, swimmers’ achievements and various other pieces of information. Announcements will posted in chronological order, and may also be accompanied by an email to the whole club.
Once again we are sorry to cause any disruption. We hope that this will be last of any unexpected closures of the pool.
13 October 2010, FURTHER POOL CLOSURE
During the recent repair work on the pool it was found that though the initial problem could be fixed temporarily, further more extensive works would need to be carried out to ensure that the problem would not reoccur again.
As a result the pool will sadly have to be closed again between Monday 25 October (08.00) and Monday 1 November (08.00) .
The club is now trying to find some alternative spaces in which to train during this period. At this stage we have no guarantees as to what might be possible - indeed there may be no viable spaces at all! Further confirmation of any possible ‘Emergency Timetable’ will be sent to all members in the near future.
The maintenance work will also affect those swimmers booked onto the Swim Camp. If and when we are able to find alternative pool space Martin Jurco will be in touch directly to confirm next steps.
Apologies once again for any inconvenience that this may cause.
